Industry 4.0 you can touch: Crate.io partners with the "Swiss Smart Factory" - a testing and demonstration platform

San Francisco, 02. July 2021 - Crate.io, developer and provider of the CrateDB database system purpose-built for machine data, is a partner at the Swiss Smart Factory (SSF). As the first open and neutral test and demonstration platform for Industry 4.0 in Switzerland, the SSF aims to become an internationally recognized competence center for applied research and in the transfer of knowledge and experience in Industry 4.0 in the long term.

In addition to a total of more than 50 other members from industry and research, Crate.io is now a partner in the “Swiss Smart Factory” association and supports the vision of creating unique innovations and activities relating to Industry 4.0.

“It is impressive to see how many partners from industry and research this initiative has already won. This shows very clearly how important the digitization of production is, but also how difficult it can be to implement in industry. This is exactly where the SSF comes in - as a testing and demonstration platform. It is Industry 4.0 you can touch and we are happy to be part of this initiative”, commented Eva Schönleitner, CEO of Crate.io.

The new Switzerland Innovation Park Biel / Bienne, in which the test hall is located, is closely linked to the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). Currently, students at the university are working together with the SSF and its partners on their thesis projects. As the provider of the CrateDB database system, Crate.io is currently making the technology available to various university projects that deal, among other things, with the relevance of smart buildings as part of the industrial infrastructure.  Two Proof of Concepts (PoC) are currently being created by BFH graduates who concentrate on condition monitoring in the industrial environment.

For this purpose, a wireless system is installed in the SSF using CrateDB Cloud and sensors from Schneider Electric. In addition, the energy consumption of various machines in the factory hall is continuously monitored. With this, the initiative is moving forward as planned to test the smart building sector in its own environment.

Crate.io and the Swiss Smart Factory are looking forward to working together and making the topic of Industry 4.0 tangible for the industry.
