Crate vs MongoDB

< Back to Overview

MongoDB clearly has its advantages and beauty. However sometimes the freedom of throwing docs into the cluster creates performance penalties, especially when scaling into production is required. We see users switching from Mongo to Crate based on the following facts:

  • ‍horizontally scalable (masterless)
  • all nodes are identical
  • store a combination of documents, relational data and blob storage
  • simpler to manage, operate and scale
  • faster aggregations, no MapReduce required
  • a standard SQL interface
  • a permissive license

  • perfect for Docker (one simple container)

A little disclaimer: comparisons depend on generalizations by their very nature. Let us know if you think we didn’t get something right and get in contact.
